Re: Declan Rice
How would people compare him to Carrick at a similar age? Different styles but Same-ish position.

I think Rice has more impact on a game than Carrick did at the same age, but you could tell the class Carrick had by the time he found on the ball.

Wouldnt swap him for Diop to be honest

Back to Declan
Was watching him and £90m Harold Maguire yesterday & thinking ... which one would you rather have.
Declan every day of the week for me especially as he has 5 years improvement til he is the other blokes age.

Bernard Lama!! How could I forget him?! In his own way he was the Di Canio/Tevez of our keepers. For pure natural ability I’m sticking him straight in at number 3 behind Ludo & Fab.

I’m loving our team they seem robust and competitive. Compared to so many bottle jobs like Matthew upson etc over the years

Lucky this isn't a KUMB thread........back on topic and all that........

Re: Declan Rice
The things is that Rice has the key attributes in place, he is strong, good in the tackle and has enough pace, he also has a good engine. His defensive game / reading of the game is extremely good for a player his age, he can learn to be more effective turning defence into attack but that will come in time.

Re: Declan Rice
fcuk me we have some thick fans dont we....playing Dec as a no 10, he aint like hazard....jeez where do we get them from......do you think we should play Fab up front?

Dec is a CB, converted to DCM he aint no fcuking Hazard, people [p;ay differnt positions to make up a TEAM,

Dec is good at what he does, he makes it easy for other players,,,thats why he plays for England despite the idiots slating hom cause he doesnt do this or that....,

shouldnt be surprised there are so many thick fans,,,,sky changed what the majority of football fans were all about

"Few being a bit harsh on Rob Green"

It's only Leroys, GAVVY and Texas Iron. They're not worth bothering about.

Re: Declan Rice
Few being a bit harsh on Rob Green, up until the move I’d been a regular since Boxing Day 1990 when we beat Oldham (2-1?). I never got to see Parkes but I did see Ludo in his prime. Other than the famous Ludo display against Man Utd to deny them the title, Green’s display away at Arsenal in the great escape season has to go down as the greatest individual performance I’ve ever seen from a West Ham keeper. He was England’s number 1 for a reason (albeit concentration not being one of those reasons!).

I would definitely rate him above Adrian, in fact an interesting topic would be the best West Ham keepers we’ve had since Parkes...and as this thread is now morphing into a goalkeeping thread, for what it’s worth I’d have my top 5 as:

1) Ludo
2) Fabianski
3) Green
4) James
5) Adrian

Though 4 & 5 are pretty open, Hislop pre-injury would have been a good shout. Can’t think of many other keepers we’ve actually had off the top of my head though? Roy Carroll, Jussi (not going to try the surname), Bywater, Jimmy Walker, Joe Hart...anyone think of others? The likes of Peter Shilton, Les Sealey, Sasa Ilic (?) don’t count haha

Re: Declan Rice
Poor Declan, his thread has become a keeper one.

Normally try to consciously overcome the older is always better bias but Robert Green's mistakes were on bigger stages but Adrian had more. And while it is not not saying much Green was better on crosses than Adrian.

Both were excellent shot-stoppers. Fabianski has that with the calmness and aerial braveness that I argued for when people said he was no better than Adrian.

Texas Iron 5:13 Mon Sep 23
Re: Declan Rice
Green no way better or even equal to Fabianski...
More like a competent keeper liable to error occasionally...flapped at crosses...weak down to his left...also not a motivator...
Green comparable to Adrian...but Adrian overall better...occasional gaffe..
Fabianski has been well nigh error freer so far... long May he reign...

Gavros 4:51 Mon Sep 23
Re: Declan Rice
Green was crap. Awful at crosses. Adrian better than Green was.

Re: Declan Rice
If you look at the way Declan got back, after Diop slipped and allowed Rashford to run at our goal, and mopped up you can see the quality DM he will become, he is bloody good now btw. If we finish in the top 6 and he has a stand out season expect him to be sold in the summer, pity though

Pickle Rick 4:48 Mon Sep 23
Re: Declan Rice
Leroys,

Don't forget about Ludo, I'd put him in the same bracket as Parkes.
